Having meandered through 3 years at art college without a clue about what I wanted to do or where I wanted to be, I was then given the opportunity to train and work as a body piercer on and off whilst raising my children, which I grabbed with both hands and thoroughly enjoyed. This put me in many different situations which can sometimes be tricky to deal with but being as I enjoyed the role so much, I took it all in my stride and gained a valuable insight into how colourful and complex human beings can be and also enabled me to experience situations outside of the usual day to day occurrences that most people find themselves in and which I found both enlightening and fascinating.
Then having become a single parent, I fell into administrative work more out of necessity than choice. I took a job as a cleaner in a nightclub and later progressed to office manager within the same company. Alongside this role, I was also asked to supervise at the clubs in support of the company manager. So, having gained a first aid qualification and also my personal license, I was regularly involved in the night-time activities of 2 busy city centre nightclubs which certainly opens your eyes to lots of funny situations, but also rather serious ones. My ability to deal with many kinds of situations was developed over the 6 years I spent with this company.
These experiences all helped me to develop as a person in my confidence, my ability to deal with diverse situations and expanding my views on life.
I then found myself at a sticking point in the role I was currently in and Intelligent Training Systems approached me and asked if I would like to join the company as office manager. I jumped at the chance, knowing both Martin Haines and Rachel France personally.
My initial meeting with Martin in regards to the role I was being offered and his passion for where the company was going meant that I could not possibly say no. It filled me with excitement and inspiration for what Intelligent Training Systems have to offer.
Since that day I have not looked back. The team spirit and passion for what the company does rubs off on everyone who comes into contact with them and I am proud to say that I am a part of it. The administrative role I have supports and enables the tutors to do what they do best – teach and inspire - and to be a part of that is both exciting and satisfying.
Life has taught me many things but I have gained the most and the best of it from my children. They have taught me patience, complete and unconditional love, how to laugh and enjoy life to the full and most of all, the joy of being a parent which I see as an honour and a privilege.
