For two and a half years ITS have been working alongside the Occupational Health Team (OHT) within Dorset Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) with outstanding results! September 28th and 29th 2011 we took the data and the phenomenal stories we had experienced to the FireFit Conference to share with the World representatives of Fire Brigades.
Two years ago the PTI within DFRS commenced his Biomechanics Diploma training with ITS. Part of the study is to complete Case Studies (research driven) of which the PTI was able to complete fully on Fire Fighters. The data collected by the PTI was not only needed to successfully pass his Diploma but was also a significant resource to Human Resources. From completing his Biomechanics Coaching Diploma the PTI became an overnight 'success' within the Fire Brigade: the PTI's success with injury prevention and optimal performance became the talking point within the brigade.
The OHT required training and support for the Biomechanics Systems that are 'Pro-Active' within injury prevention. ITS and DFRS work together on a consultation and training programme to support their successes.
"The system of Normalise, Stabilise and Functionalise gives our occupational health department a clear process in which to systematically rehabilitate staff when they are recovering from musculoskeletal injuries. After the initial screen, subsequent screens and specific exercises provide us with vital information, allowing us to “think outside of the box” in terms of cause and effect. More importantly, the progressive nature of the screening process makes it easier to decide when an individual is ready to return to work".
