Who are they for: Level 2 and above

The courses are for all those who prescribes exercises from elite level to young school children. Typically you will be an athletics coach, personal trainer, strength and conditioning coach or therapist, but anybody who prescribes exercises for any reason will benefit from our courses. Please note the minimum qualifications required to take part on one of our Intelligent Training courses:

  • All sports coaches (including athletics, triathlon, rugby, golf, martial arts, gymnastics, cycling, swimming etc)
  • All therapists
  • Sports massage
  • Strength and conditioning coaches

Diploma in professional development in biomechanical coaching - level 5

The Diploma in Biomechanical Coaching is the world's first qualification in Biomechanics coaching and has been validated by London Metropolitan University. It builds upon the CPD programme, adds the Biomechanics of the foot and expands on the practical application to the field of the students.

It consists of approximately 450 hours in total. This consists of pre-course research and study in related anatomy (including the muscular, skeletal and nervous systems of the body) and completion of on-line worksheets, 5 full days including 40 contact hours with tutors and "open clinics". Plus, an additional 250 hours (over a 6 month period), to complete a Biomechanical Business report and compile a Case Study Report and Literary Review, consisting of practical case studies and additional research into the use and effects of Biomechanical Screening. On your return there is one day of a case study presentation and practical assessments. 

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the principles of biomechanical screening tests for the pelvis, knee, foot & ankle, spine, core and shoulders
  • Demonstrate understanding of, and critically evaluate, the principles of intrinsic biomechanical factors potentially causative for injury
  • Demonstrate understanding of, and critically evaluate, principles of corrective exercise prescription and progression
  • Analyse segmental data and integration to individual functional movement patterns
  • Demonstrate and understanding of the importance of communicational/coaching skills with patients/clients
  • Develop business approaches for different client bases/markets

Diploma in professional development in biomechanical coaching (Resistance Specialist) - Level 6

The Diploma in Professional Development in Biomechanics Coaching (Resistance Specialist), is a course that Intelligent Training Systems (ITS) is launching in partnership with Star Trac Fitness.

This expanded Diploma complements the Biomechanics Coaching Diploma by adding a two day resistance specialist focus as it explores how Biomechanical Coaching can be infused with resistance trainingto produce a more complete exercise practitioner. more information

What are the various levels and qualifications?

In the ITS Biomechanics coaching structure, there are 6 levels of Biomechanics coachâ„¢ training:

  • Level 1: Coaches are provided with an introduction to the principles of Biomechanical screening and its application.
  • Level 2: Coaches are trained to screen the pelvis, spine and neural system and prescribe the relevant corrective exercises.
  • Level 3: As Level 2, but Level 3 coaches are also trained to screen the core and trunk musculature, then establish the right level of core exercises on the performance continuum.
  • Level 4: As level 3, although trained Level 4 coaches can additionally screen shoulder and knee Biomechanics and prescribe the relevant corrective exercises.
  • Level 5: As level 4, plus Level 5 coaches have the additional qualifications to screen and prescribe relevant exercises for the foot and ankle; level 5 is proven to be competent by examination and leads to a Diploma in Professional Development in Biomechanical Coaching, representing 45 points towards a degree. This is the world's first a recognised qualification in Biomechanics Coaching.
  • Level 6: Diploma in Biomechanical coaching (Resistance Specialist)
