Biomechanics for Golf - Preparation is everything

ITS is now the Biomechanics Coach training provider for the PGA National Training Academy (European Centre of Excellence). We offer a Golf Biomechanics Coaching workshop to teach PGA members key, simple and timely screens to check their students ability to perform the swings that they are being taught. Learn the best exercises in a simple format to show your students to help them swing better. We also look at what swing alternatives they may use if a student can’t physically perform the swing they are trying to teach, to suit their student’s body.

South of England Biomechanics Coaches Meeting

25th January 2012 The South of England Biomechanics Coaches met for the first time to discuss, debate and drive forward their personal businesses as a Team.  Martin Skivington of Solent University arranged for the Biomechanics Lab to be the perfect venue for our first meeting.  The meeting commenced at 10 and finished at 3pm, with still much to discuss!

Everyone found the meeting highly beneficial with specifity towards; standardisation of screens and corrective exercises; the next step within their personal development; building their business; working alongside their local Allied Health Professionals.

Next South of England Biomechanics Coach Regional Meeting will be Wednesaday 18th April 2012 - Location to be confirmed.

If you would like to attend this FREE event please contact Joe Sidey to register your details.

From the Southern Biomechanics Coaching Team.. 'we look forward to seeing you there!'

We have been approached by ITN news. They have heard about how great
Biomechanics Coaching is (from an article I wrote in Wired Magazine) and
they want to do a piece on Biomechanics Coaching and the Olympics 2012.

So we're looking for any of you who are seeing Olympic Athletes who can say
for example, something like; I had some back pain and my 100m time was 20
seconds, and since working with my Biomech Coach my back pain has gone.

Budding Future Olympians supported by local Biomechanics Coaches

Canoe Slalom has an impressive record of success at Olympic level. The Talent Identity Academy Programme, run jointly by GB Canoeing and Canoe England, aims to find and support young people with the potential of emulating the great moments in Barcelona 1992, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Bejing 2008 and deliver them onto the medal podium at the 2020 Olympic games.
And local biomechanics coaches will be on hand to help them achieve their goals.

National fitness awards

The ITS team and some of their previous students got their best frocks and tuxes on and strutted their way to the Birmingham International Exhibition Centre to experience this awards show.
We were keen to experience this event with a view to sponsor some awards next year we think there could well be some value so we will be chatting to Workout about being more involved next year.
While in the beginning things were quite tame (while Rach was there)over dinner the team continued on to some additional exploits at another venue to party until the early hours.

This week ITS was invited to teach on Dame Kelly Holmes' education programme for
Olympic stars of the future. The sessions are sponsored by Jaguar and
branded as the Jaguar Academy of Sport. Anthony Fletcher (Fletch) went down
for us and delivered 2 great presentations. One was to the athletes
themselves and two of the Jaguar Ambassadors were there: Colin Jackson (110m
hurdles) and Mark Foster (50m swimmer). Athletes and ambassadors alike were
impressed with Fletch's first presentation, where he explained to the
athletes how they should be warming up using the principles of the
biomechanics programme and how they can integrate it into their existing
training programmes.

His second presentation was more of a workshop for their parents and
guardians. He impressed them as he showed them how to screen their athletes
and make sure they keep on their programmes by measuring their progress.
Time as always was short, but the parents/guardians and athletes would like
us to return to screen all of them and also to teach their coaches about how
the biomechanics coaching programmes can help them.

UKSEM

The ITS team were proud to be on the same lecture programme as the likes of Jiri Dorvak, Nigg and Leiberman, to name a few, at UKSEM held in the London ExCel Centre. Delivering presentations about biomechanics coaching to sports physicians, physiotherapists, GP’s, clinicians, coaches and sports rehab students was a challenging experience.

Mike explained how we screen the pelvis, Rachel offered examples of shoulder screens and both presentations were received really well by all.
Fletch was in his element being able to listen to the barefoot running debate!
